Just a quick suggestion or if you already have: Do you have an option for dark mode/night mode?

I am wondering if any of these are stating clearly that they will not "go public"
/
i.e not become stock companies that Microsoft and others can just buy out and take over, as we saw with Linkedin, Swiftkey, and almost had to suffer with the attempts at taking over Discord.

any thoughts?

Dear Aaron, thank you very much for giving us this list of great open-source hosts! I would like to mention OSDN.net as another great alternative to get your open source code hosted. While it is also being maintained by a corporation (you seem to be critical of that), it does support Git, SVN, and Mercurial. You get your own subdomain to host HTML-based documentation. There is a ranking system between members that stirs up motivation.

I am an active developer on OSDN.net myself and am hoping to find people that are willing to support it.

@Marcos

Thanks a lot for sharing first hand experience with us, you can actually self-host Gitlab Community Edition to do away with some of these limitations. Check out our guide for installing Gitlab on CentOS 7: https://www.tecmint.com/install-and-configure-gitlab-on-centos-7/
