I've been using PhotonOS for years, since version 3. I run a couple ESXi hosts and it's been ideal for creating minimal-footprint VMs whose sole focus is to run Docker containers. Now that Broadcom is wrecking VMWare offerings for all but the highest tier of paying customer, I presume it's only a matter of time before PhotonOS is deprecated. Appreciate the list of alternatives. I'm probably going to start looking at the options in your list for my next Docker VM platform.

Looks like Flatcar Linux doesn't support x86? Seems odd.

Alpine Linux - The best part is the Musl libraries. Been around for a while, they are much lighter, faster. Works effectively as a desktop on really old machines with Xfce.
