First, you should write Linux (with capital) when you refer to the kernel, ie the monolithic OS.
Write it in lowercase when speaking about any distro or combination whatever.

Essential parts of Linux are therefore Nothing! It is monolithic.
But to make it human-usable you need some software ie. Linux + Gnu make a linux you can use.]]></description>
