I’d recommend you to use http://mysqlbackupftp.com/ for making MySQLBackupFTP databases backups and http://postgresql-backup.com/ for PostgreSQL databases backup.

if you have time maybe next topic could be percona mysql with its hot backup (xtrabackup),
and maybe in combo with replication and tunnel
