An update to this listing is long overdue. This listing is at least 4 years old which in computer time is like forever. Most, if not all, the distributions mentioned are already past End of Life and are no longer supported. Many no longer are even available for download, even if one wanted to use an archaic distro.

    • Debian is up to version 9 Stretch.
    • Fedora is up to version 29 and ready to release version 30.
    • Kali is up to version 2019.1.
    • open SUSE is up to version 15.
    • Mint is up to version 19.1.
    • Ubuntu just released 19.4.
    • RedHat and CentOS are up to version 7.6.

I miss Manjora. Though you don’t need it for a course it’s a distro you seldom need your terminal. Anyways, it’s a development. The terminal becomes more and more important in the development and likewise obsolete in the hobby sector. Working with the terminal is what working with Linux great. You are always in control.

Ubuntu 17.3 unstable or Ubuntu unstable? Really? Details?

  4. Hari Krishnan says:

Ubuntu 17.10 is too damn unstable . The screen freezes and the mouse and keyboard doesn’t seem to work . The only option left is to press the power button and start all over again . Any solutions to solve this shit ?

  5. Jonny says:

Kali is horribly unstable.Never tried Fedora. Never tried CentOS. Debian for the servers and Kubuntu for the laptops. Just my 2 cents. I’m no Linux guru, but I’ve tried Gentoo, RH, Mandrake, Mandriva, Xandros, Slackware, Suse.
